MQ SCAN GOES INTERNATIONAL – THE PLAYMAKERS PROGRAMME
We are partnering with the Leeds Beckett University.
Research has shown that many girls never get the chance to experience the fun and other benefits of football. It seems that opportunities for girls to play football are limited or they are not suited to their needs and wants. This shouldn’t be the case, right?!
Therefore, the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) is partnering with Disney to launch a project in which 5 to 8 year-old girls will have the opportunity to work on their motor development and to have fun while playing football. Why partnering with Disney? At the heart of this project is the use of story-telling-based pedagogy, based on storylines and characters from Disney movies.
Learn football through play and storytelling
The four main goals of The Playmakers Programme:
- Create an environment for girls where movement and development of life skills are central
- To use a coaching method that promotes learning, fun, friendship and football
- To provide a coach training course to clarify the rationale behind this pedagogy and methodology
- To use Disney and resource to change people’s view that girls can and should play football too
So what does this have to do with the MQ Scan?
One of the individual goals for the girls participating in this program is that they develop better fundamental motor skills. This is where the MQ Scan comes in handy. By monitoring the motor skills, the status of the girls’ motor skills can be determined. Based on the results, the program can be adjusted to improve their fundamental motor skills.
MQ Scan and Leeds Beckett University provide participation in The Playmakers Programme in already five different countries.
